Speldhurst is a village about three miles west of Tunbridge Wells. Its name comes from Old English, meaning a wooded hill where wood-chips are found. The parish council describes it as a thriving village in the Kent countryside, and the parish also includes Langton Green and Ashurst.

St Mary's Church was designed by John Oldrid Scott and built in 1871. It has stained glass by Burne-Jones and William Morris, and eight bells. Rev Baden Powell, father of the founder of the Scout movement, was once its incumbent. The George and Dragon is a 13th-century pub, and the famous Speldhurst sausage originated in the village and is still produced locally.

Day-to-day services include a primary school and a community-run shop and post office in a restored chapel. The surrounding countryside offers good walks, although we have not confirmed specific named routes. A small business park is also located in the village.
